Being an Affirming Congregation means that we declare ourselves to be fully inclusive of people of all sexua orientations and gender identities.

We officially underwent the process to commit to being an Affirming congregation in 2016, and our congregation belongs to the national organization Affirm United.

The Affirm Team uses the Open Hearts Handbook provided by Affirm United and The United Church of Canada, as our main resource to guide our action.

Our team plans events to help our congregation educate ourselves about realities for LGBTQ2S+ individuals, and to try to make our congregation as inclusive and supportive as possible.

On June 3, a group of about 12 members of the congregation took part in the2023 Pride Parade in downtown Barrie.

We marched with our NWBUC banner as part of a larger group with Burton Avenue United Churchand Grace United Church.

Overall, this was a fun,positive, well attended event.
